Revered director Paul Thomas Anderson is back with his latest film, ‘One Battle After Another’, a crime thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall and Sean Penn. The film is set to be released in September and courtesy of the first trailer dropping, we now have a better idea of the story, see the trailer below.
The plot is described as a group of ex-revolutionaries who reunite to rescue one of their daughters from an old enemy. Already, from the trailer alone, Leonardo DiCaprio looks like he’s set to turn in another award worthy performance. Being supported by such a stellar director, this truly has the potential to make an impact come award season. PTA has been nominated multiple times by the academy for his screenwriting and directing skills. Whilst he doesn’t have the longest CV, whenever he has crafted a film, the results have always gathered acclaim. Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, Licorice Pizza, his works have varied from one another in tone and genre, yet his distinctive feel and masterful writing is evident across all these projects.
Another exciting element of ‘One Battle After Another’ is the prospect of him working with a lot of these actors for the first time. Seeing the dynamics on screen between Benecio Del Toro and DiCaprio, in the trailer alone, has intrigued and captivated me and I can’t wait to see more. DiCaprio’s role had originally been cast with Joaquin Pheonix, but now after a small glimpse, it’s hard to picture another actor in the role.
