Final Trailer for Superman Drops Online Alongside Ticket Release

Tickers are now available for James Gunn’s new Superman film, coming in less than a month on the 11th of July. To mark this date, the fantastic final trailer has been released online to almost universal praise, in our best look yet at the man of steel, in this new DC Universe.

Watch the new trailer for Superman, below:

John Williams’ iconic Superman theme frames this entire trailer that’s full of wonder and action. It opens with voiceover from Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luther, who has shown more and more promise with every bit of footage. As an unabashed Hoult fan, I was certain that he could pull off the maniacal tech villain… I now sit here with more confidence than ever that he is going to crush this role. Not only is Hoult a fantastic actor but his strength comes from his ability to have chemistry with whoever he shares a screen with. Its that particular trait that gives me so much hope for his ‘Lex’ because the dynamic between him and David Corenswet’s Superman is the be-all and end-all for this film.

That brings me nicely to David Corenswet as Kal-El/ Superman. From the rumours to the official announcement, I have been fully behind the casting. But this final trailer has pushed my excitement levels for his Superman through the roof. The physicality has never been an issue. If you tried to design an actor in a lab to look like superman, you wouldn’t be far off with David. But looking like Superman and embodying him are two very different things. James Gunn is bringing Superman back to his roots. The loveable boy scout, the farm boy, the all-American. All these factors are key to Clark Kent. The fact he is also an alien and the strongest person on the planet should come as secondary. Gunn seems to understand this better than most.

Whilst some fans have raised concerns with how Gunn’s humour will translate, fans willing to look beyond the more recent depictions of Superman as dark and broody, (I’m looking at you Schneider!), will know that there has always been an innocence and slight goofiness to Clark Kent and I truly believe that’s the superman we need right now and also the one that fits best into this fun, bright, hopeful universe that James Gunn Is putting together.

Ultimately, this film looks like it’s going to be fun. A bright, entertaining adventure that will certainly have a lot of emotional impact at its core as is so often the case with a James Gunn film. Luckily, were creeping ever closer because I cannot wait much longer to see Superman on the 11th of July.
