We have our first look at the highly anticipated ‘F1’ film starring Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula One driver convinced to step back in and train a new driving prodigy, played by Damson Idris. Watch the first trailer for ‘F1’ below.
Director of Top Gun: Maverick, Joseph Kosinski, swaps the skies for the racetracks in this compelling story that looks to bring all the fast-paced twists and turns of a real race. Whilst the story and character of Sonny are fictional, the film has been made with a lot of collaboration with the governing body for F1 to ensure the depiction of the sport has as much authenticity of the sport as possible. Supported even further by the appearance of many of the leading drivers in today’s sport, such as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Beyond the real-world cameos, the trailer highlights a cast stacked with talent, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Damson Idris and of course Brad Pitt. This project has been held in high regard by the studio ever since it was announced and they are hoping to have a film that both makes a dent in the box office but also has a presence when awards season comes around. With the talent involved both on screen and off as well as the global phenomenon of Formula One as the subject matter, it certainly has a lot of potential to meet those high expectations.
For now, we will have to enjoy all the potential promised in the trailer, until F1 is released into cinemas, on the 27th of June.
