Happy is back! Nearly 30 years on from his Golf Championship win, Sandler dons the sweatpants and timberlands for another round as the foul-mouthed, golfer.
Watch the new trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, below.
Set to release on Netflix on the 25th of July, Happy is ready to step out of retirement to use his golf skills to raise money for his daughter’s ballet school tuition. This is obviously reminiscent to the plot of the original which required Happy to win the tournament so he could buy back his grandmother’s family home, once again showing the wholesome motivations to the character’s abrasive behaviour that made the first film iconic.
Beyond returning motivations, the leading cast is back to reprise their iconic roles from the 1996 comedy. As well as Sandler returning as happy, the film reunites us with; Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, Ben Stiller as Hal L and Christopher McDonald returns as the nefarious Shooter McGavin.
In addition to all the fan-favourites, the sequel promises a course-full of cameos from the biggest faces in the world of professional golf, blurring the lines between reality and the fictional world of Happy. Get ready for cameos from professional golfers John Daly, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and many, many more.
Of course, it does feel underwhelming that a sequel to one of my favourite comedies of all time will not receive a theatrical release. Instead, it’s being made for streaming and streaming only. Despite that, after watching the new trailer, my sheer excitement to see more has certainly shot Happy Gilmore 2 right up on my list for the most anticipated films this summer.
