We have our first look at the official trailer for Tron: Ares, the long awaited third installment in the Tron franchise. Set to be released in October, 14 years on from 2010’s Tron: Legacy, this new film returns us to the grid as it starts to pour out, blending our world with the digital realm.
Take a look at the first trailer for Tron: Ares, below.
Jared Leto is set to star as “Ares”, a sophisticated program from the grid who enters the real world to achieve a secret mission. Whilst the film is set in the same world and we can hear Jeff Bridges’ Tron: Legacy character’s voice in the trailer, there’s no real sense yet that this film will pick up straight from the 2010 release; but instead look to tell its own story.
Joachim Rønning is set to direct as he teams up with Disney again following 2019’s “Maleficent” as well as the final installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Apart from hearing his voice there’s no confirmation about Jeff Bridges returning, but for me, the biggest miss from the sequel is the loss of Daft Punk on the score. Daft Punk’s work on 2010 Tron: Legacy, to this day, stands out as one of the greatest scores/ soundtracks created. Whilst the trailer conjures up a lot of the same feelings, Nine Inch Nails as the new soundtrack artists have some very big shoes to fill.
