Peacemaker joins DCEU in new trailer for season 2

By far, the biggest surprise from 2022 was the reception and success of Peacemaker, the spin-off series from James Gunn’s Suicide Squad (2021), featuring John Cena as Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker. Expectations were low for the show, with fans confused on the direction, opting to create a series around a rather goofy tertiary character. But any concerns were swiftly dissipated with the show gaining global success and fan acclaim after the first few episodes. The adult humour, brutal action and intriguing mystery surprised and delighted audiences to the point where a second season announcement swiftly followed season one’s finale.

The only snag since then has been that the DC Universe that Gunn’s Suicide Squad and Peacemaker were set in has ended, leaving fans unsure of the future of the announced second season of Peacemaker. Whilst it seemed extremely likely to still be made due to Gunn being promoted to co-head of DC Studios, the concern was simply how could the story continue with the universe being replaced? After all season one ended with cameos from the Justice League cast that has already been replaced.

With the release of the first trailer for season 2 of Peacemaker, we now start to see how this is going to work. Watch the new trailer for season 2 of Peacemaker right here.

It seems we have our first look at how Peacemaker is going to make it into the new DC Extended Universe that James Gunn is now helming. In the new trailer you can see Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern character which we have already seen in the trailer from Gunn’s Superman film coming in June, blurring the lines between the old Universe from Season 1 and the new DCEU, the trailer also ends with a confrontation from another version of Peacemaker, perhaps the original from the new DCEU that our beloved Peacemaker from season 1 will replace in order to keep existing. Either way, the trailer does a great job to display all the same adult humour and zany action that made the first season so infectious.

The reality is a lot of fans won’t/don’t care about how or why this Peacemaker is able to continue in the new DCEU, but if they can keep the same level of quality story telling with the raunchy comedy from the first season then I have no doubts of season 2’s success, regardless of which universe it’s set in.

You can watch season 2 of Peacemaker when it comes out on the 21st of August. For more updates be sure to check out the TV and Film News section on the Hits Players.
