What’s coming out in June?

James Whitehead

From assassin, to dragons, to F1 races; the month of June has a little bit of everything to offer. With so much choice, how can you keep up to date with what’s being released? Well, that’s where we come in.

Every month, on our socials we release our “Big Hits for the Big Screen” a show that highlights some of the biggest releases coming to cinemas that month. But as the summer months start to pick up, we simply can’t cover everything. So below we have even more choices for what you can see in cinemas in the month of June, as well as one bonus entry at the end, strictly for streaming!

Coming out this month:

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (6th of June)

Set between John Wick Chapters 3 and 4, Ballerina is a spin off film about a new prodigy assassin, played by Ana De Armas, who begins her training by crossing paths with the most dangerous man on the planet, John Wick.

How to Train Your Dragon (9th of June)

DreamWorks are bringing one of their most successful films to the live action realm with How to Train Your Dragon, a family-friendly film about a young Viking who goes against his tribe to form a friendship with an injured dragon called toothless. Starring Mason Thomas and Gerard Butler, reprising his role form the animated version.

Tornado (13th of June)

A smaller release, but an intriguing one for sure. Tim Roth stars in this period piece action drama between ruthless criminals and a travelling samurai in 1970 Britain. It looks gritty, dramatic and action packed, certainly one to keep an eye out for!

28 Years Later (19th of June)

After 28 days later, and 28 weeks later, were finally back for a third instalment in Danny Boyle’s zombie series. We see a world forever changed, and how mankind has learned to adapt and survive since. A star-studded cast of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes bring this brutal film to the big screen as we explore a world ravaged by zombies for decades.

Elio (20th of June)

Perhaps you’ll need something a little more wholesome after 28 years later, well have no fear as Pixar are back with their latest original film, Elio, which follows the story of a 12-year-old boy who pines for a life in the stars before getting more than he bargains for when he’s beamed up to an intergalactic society in space. Certainly, one for the whole family.

F1 (25th of June)

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski teams up with Bradd Pitt to tell you the story of fictional F1 legend Sonny Hayes, who steps back into the world of racing to train a new driving prodigy played by Damson Idris. The film looks fast paced, yet full of action and emotion. Early reviews are suggesting this could be a standout from the month of June.

Megan 2.0 (27th of June)

The first Megan was a surprise smash-hit. It is therefore no surprise that we didn’t have to wait too long for a sequel. This time, the killer robot Megan must protect Cady from another kill-bot designed from her own plans. Their only choice is to give Megan some upgrades to fight off this new threat. The latest trailer for the film portrays a mashup of Polly Pocket and Terminator 2. If that’s not a reason to go watch then I don’t know what will convince you.

BONUS ENTRY!

Predator: Killer of Killers (6th of June- only on Disney+/ Hulu)

Whilst there is no theatrical release for this animated Predator film, the creative team behind it means the film has to be on my list for my most anticipated films of the month. From the director of Prey, and the upcoming Predator: Badlands (which is getting a wide release), Dan Trachtenberg has his finger on the pulse of the franchise and is clearly being given freedom to create new and exciting stories in this world. Killer of Killers looks like no exception. Predators versus Samurai! Need I say more?

So, there you have all the major releases to keep an eye out for this month, as ever stay up to date with the TV and Film section on the Hits player, for more news and reviews for these films once they are released.
